Antioch Baptist Church

Antioch Baptist Church in Basseterre, Saint Kitts and Nevis, is a historic Christian congregation known as the first established Baptist church in the federation. Founded in 1963 by Rev. William Connor, it has since grown into a central religious and community institution on the island, emphasizing gospel-centered teaching and service.

Antioch Baptist Church originated from a Sunday school started by Pastor William Connor for underprivileged children in the 1950s and 1960s. On March 5, 1963, Connor and twenty-one believers were baptized at Lime Kiln Beach, officially forming the church. By 1966, the congregation had built its first sanctuary on Infirmary Road, Haynes Smith Village. The church later expanded with a Family Life Centre in 1986 to serve broader community needs.

Pastor Lincoln Connor, ordained in 2002, continues his father’s legacy as senior pastor. Under his leadership, Antioch Baptist Church has introduced new ministries, strengthened discipleship, and maintained an active role in youth engagement and social outreach. Services typically include Sunday worship, Bible study, and community activities that reflect the church’s mission “to glorify Christ by knowing Him and making Him known.”

The church operates from its Lime Kiln Commercial Development facilities, hosting faith gatherings, educational programs, and cultural events such as “Repairing the Rhythm of Our Cultural Identity,” which support youth and persons with disabilities. It also collaborates with civic institutions, embodying its vision of being a people-focused, community-oriented, and high-impact ministry.

Antioch Baptist Church remains a symbol of local leadership in faith and social upliftment within Saint Kitts and Nevis. Its founder, Rev. William Connor, received multiple honors, including an OBE from Queen Elizabeth II, for his lifelong contributions to church and community.
