Calvary Baptist Church

Calvary Baptist Church is a long-established Baptist congregation located at Gros Islet, Saint Lucia. It serves as one of the key Reformed Baptist fellowships on the island, emphasizing biblical teaching grounded in the 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith and the doctrines of grace.

The church’s roots trace to 1947, when missionary Eugene F. McMillan began Baptist outreach in Saint Lucia. A formal congregation was founded in 1955 in Gros Islet with six charter members, initially worshiping in simple shelters built by local believers. In 1969 the fellowship moved to its current Massade site, dedicating a new building in 1970. Over subsequent decades, the church expanded ministries, rebuilt after Hurricane Allen (1980), and adopted an eldership form of governance in 1997.

Calvary Baptist Church teaches that salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, revealed by Scripture alone, to the glory of God alone. Its ministries include Sunday school, prayer meetings, youth and ladies’ groups, and a community outreach in Riviere Mitant. The church also shares the “Grace Baptist Hour” radio broadcast with partner congregations.

Since 1997, the church has been led collectively by a board of elders rather than a single pastor. Past elders have included Kenty Pamphile, Joseph Charles, John Robert Lee, and Lincoln Auguste. They oversee preaching, teaching, and administration, maintaining close ties with sister Baptist churches in the Caribbean and abroad.

Celebrating its 50th anniversary at Massade in 2019, the congregation remains a central part of Gros Islet’s Christian community. It continues to nurture multigenerational membership, foster youth leadership, and promote biblical literacy and missionary outreach throughout Saint Lucia.
