Covenant Baptist

Covenant Baptist is a local Christian church located on Friars Hill Road in St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda. It serves as one of the member congregations of the East Caribbean Baptist Mission (ECBM), a regional Baptist network devoted to Reformed theology and missionary outreach across the eastern Caribbean.

Covenant Baptist Church was constituted on Easter Sunday, 2004, under the leadership of Dr. Hensworth W.C. Jonas of the ECBM. The congregation originated from an effort to revive a disbanded Baptist church in the Cedar Grove community. After a short period in temporary facilities in Coolidge, the church established its permanent home in the Longford’s Estate–Mount Pleasant area on Friars Hill Road, where the current building was dedicated on April 15, 2007.

As part of the ECBM circuit, Covenant Baptist emphasizes gospel-centered preaching and confessional Reformed Baptist beliefs aligned with the 1689 London Baptist Confession. Its mission focuses on worship, discipleship, and community outreach—encouraging spiritual growth and evangelism in the wider St. John’s area. The ECBM network also operates Central, Tyrells, Immanuel, and Reformation Churches across Antigua and Barbuda.

Situated near Longford’s Estate Police Station and Cedar Valley Golf Club, the church is easily accessible via Friars Hill Road. The surrounding Mount Pleasant community places it close to other local landmarks such as the Wright F. George Police Academy and the Antigua Recreation Ground.

Covenant Baptist hosts weekly worship services, with Sunday morning worship beginning at 8:00 a.m. It maintains close fellowship with the wider ECBM churches, sharing programs and missionary initiatives aimed at spreading Christian teaching throughout Antigua and neighboring islands.
