St. Thomas Reformed Church

The St. Thomas Reformed Church is a historic Protestant congregation located at the corner of Crystal and Nye Gade in downtown Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. Part of the Reformed Church in America, it is one of the oldest continuously worshiping congregations in the Western Hemisphere, dating back nearly four centuries.

Founded in the 1600s as the Dutch Reformed Church, the congregation reflects the island’s colonial history and enduring Christian heritage. It remains affiliated with the Reformed Church in America, a mainline Protestant denomination that emphasizes scripture, grace, and community service.

Weekly worship services are held Sundays at 10 a.m. AST, blending traditional liturgy with a relaxed island atmosphere. The church welcomes residents and visitors alike, offering a multigenerational, ethnically diverse community united by its core values—faith, hope, love, and grace.

The current sanctuary, rebuilt after storm damage such as from Hurricane Marilyn in 1995, features white-painted shutters, tall fluted columns, and an airy open design that allows Caribbean breezes to flow through during services. Its neoclassical façade with four pillars is a local landmark amid the historic streets of Charlotte Amalie.

Beyond worship, St. Thomas Reformed Church serves as a social and spiritual anchor for the island community. It hosts charitable programs and mission partnerships and offers a peaceful retreat for travelers exploring the U.S. Virgin Islands.
